Q. How many visits are there for full dentures?
A. It takes a minimum of five visits to produce a well-fitting, functional, comfortable denture.

Q.  Should I leave them out at night?
A. Ideally, yes. It gives the mouth a rest from the dentures. But, if you want to leave them in that is OK too. We understand that not all people wish to sleep without their dentures in.

Q. How do I clean my dentures?
A. The best way is to brush them with a soft brush and a gentle hand soap. Please avoid using toothpaste as it’s too abrasive.

Q. I'm still unsure about what I should do with my denture problems.

What is the difference between a dental prosthetist and a dentist?
A. A dentist has qualified at university in dental science. A dental prosthetist qualifies as a dental technician first and then does further study to enable them to see the patient for the chairside component such as impressions.

Q. If I see you, who will actually make my denture?
A.   All chairside procedures and the actual construction of your dentures are done by me on the premises. To achieve the best results, I prefer to do all the work myself

Q. Can I claim for services provided by a Dental Prosthetist?
A. Yes, provided you have Dental Cover from your Private Health Insurance Provider.

Q. How long do implants last?
A. If the bones and gums are healthy and patient has good oral hygiene, implants can last 20 years or more.

Q. Are Implant Retained Dentures removable?
A. They can be made removable using a simple press stud attachment called a ‘Locator’. An IRD should still be able to be removed for cleaning and maintenance.

Q. Can I deal directly with a Dental Prosthetist for Implant Retained Dentures?
A. Yes you can, a prosthetist can make and fit the denture, but you need to see a suitably trained dentist to place them.

Q. What is the cost of implants in Australia?
A. The cost for 2 implants placed in the lower jaw is approximately $5000 excluding components. A quality set of new dentures with 2 implants placed in the lower jaw with Locator attachments, can be fitted for approximately $9000

Q. Is there ongoing maintenance with Implant Retained Dentures?
A. The more complicated the appliance the higher the maintenance cost. Removable Implant Retained denture require a little more DYI cleaning than normal dentures and Locator inserts replaced every 1-2 years.

Fixed Implant Retained Dentures require a though daily cleaning regime and yearly appointments to remove and clean the denture then replace with new retention screws (a one use item) by suitably trained dentist.
